P2 Shape Explorers!

1st Dec 2025

Today in P2 we had a fantastic time learning all about 3D shapes. We became real shape detectives and used our eyes, hands, and brilliant thinking skills to explore the world of cylinders, spheres, cubes, cuboids and cones!

Can it roll or can it stack?

We carried out a fun investigation to find out which 3D shapes could roll, which could stack, and which could do both!

  • We discovered that spheres roll everywhere!

  • Cylinders were tricky—they can roll and stack if you stand them the right way.

  • Cubes and cuboids were super stackers!

  • Cones surprised us… they can roll in circles!

The children worked together, tested their ideas, made predictions, and compared their results - just like real scientists and mathematicians.

Mystery Shape Game

We also played ‘Mystery Shape’, where we had to listen carefully to clues and guess which 3D shape was hiding behind Mrs Crossley’s back. The boys and girls used brilliant language like curved edges, flat faces, and corners to help them solve the clues.

Everyone was engaged, enthusiastic, and full of curiosity - wonderful learning all round!

Well done P2!

We are so proud of how well the children explored, investigated, and talked about their learning today.
