How Do Polar Animals Stay Warm?
21st Jan 2026
Today in P2, we explored how animals like seals, penguins, and polar bears stay warm in freezing polar regions. We learned that they have a special layer called blubber under their skin, which keeps them warm and helps them float.
To understand this, we did a fun experiment! We put one hand in a bag filled with soft lard (to act as blubber) and the other in an empty bag, then dipped both into cold water. We discovered the 'blubber' hand stayed much warmer and floated more easily, just like real polar animals. Afterwards, we drew pictures and wrote about our experiment, connecting how our results are similar to how these amazing animals survive in icy places.
