P2’s River Rescue Adventure with Jillian!

13th May 2026
What a ‘splash’ we had in P2 last week! We were incredibly lucky to welcome Jillian from the Ballinderry Rivers Trust to our classroom for a special pollution awareness workshop. Our morning began with a wonderful hands-on activity where the children helped build a beautiful, healthy river with various fish and river animals. However, our river journey took a turn as Jillian shared a story about a little fish who encountered some big problems. As the fish swam along, the children were tasked with adding different types of pollution, like rubbish, dirt, and oil, to the water to see exactly what happens when our environment isn't looked after. It was a great way to see the sparkling water turn murky and to understand how hard it makes life for the animals living there. To help us remember our role as protectors, we all joined in singing a catchy song about saving our rivers! We finished our session with a litter race, where the children grabbed litter pickers and went head-to-head to see who could clear the ‘river’ the fastest. It was a brilliant morning of learning, and our new P2s are now experts in keeping our local environment clean. A massive thank you to Jillian for such an inspiring visit; we are all ready to make sure that "
only rain goes down the drain!
