Seeing Double in P2
Today in our numeracy lesson we were learning about doubles. We started by talking about what a double is and looking at doubles to 10, with an extra challenge of thinking about doubles to 20.
First, we played a game with our partners using dice. We took turns rolling the dice and if we rolled a double we scored a point. The winner was the first person to reach three points. It was lots of fun and helped us see doubles in a way that connects to games we play in real life.
Next, we used counters to build different doubles. This helped us to see clearly how a number can be made by combining two equal groups.
After that, we played a game of hide and seek with our Numicon pieces. One partner hid a Numicon piece outside. Their partner then had to find the matching Numicon piece that would make a double. This was a great way to practise recognising doubles and working together.
We had a fantastic time learning about doubles today and the children did a great job working with their partners and using different resources to help their understanding.
