Today was a wonderful day at St Mary’s as we welcomed the P2 class from Orritor Primary School for a fun-filled Shared Education Day!
We started our morning by introducing both classes to our exciting new topic - Going on an Adventure. Everyone was excited about what adventures might be ahead!
Our first big activity was a STEM challenge. In groups made up of children from both schools, we made our very own binoculars! We used lots of materials to build them, and everyone decorated theirs with lots of colour and creativity. We planned to use them to spot jungle animals in our shared story, Rumble in the Jungle.
After all that creativity, we enjoyed a break and snack together outside. This was a great chance to make new friends and chat about our favourite animals.
Next came our play-based learning sessions, all linked to our jungle adventure theme. The classroom and outdoor areas were packed with activities:
- Outdoor Construction: Building explorer huts and jungle bridges
- Water Tray: Searching for hidden jungle animals in murky green water
- Playdough Table: Making amazing rainforest creatures
- Polydron Building: Creating explorer huts for our explorers
- Mindfulness Colouring: Beautiful rainforest patterns and animals
- iPad Videos: Recording stories we created using our duplo rainforest scenes
- Chromebooks & JiT on J2E: Designing digital jungle pictures
- Matching Jungle Pairs: Finding animal pairs and learning their names
- Small World Jungle: Exploring with toy animals, twigs, leaves and stones
- Junk Art: Crafting jungle animals out of recycled materials
- Rainforest Jigsaws: Piecing together colourful jungle scenes
- Popoids: Making wild and wiggly rainforest animals
Our classrooms were full of laughter, teamwork, and discovery. It was wonderful to see children from both schools working and playing together, sharing ideas and making new friends.
After a busy morning of learning and play, we all enjoyed lunch together before it was time to say goodbye.
We can’t wait for our next shared day and more adventures together!
